Athabat Ridgeline View Trek
OVERVIEW
Duration: 6 hours (average)
Distance: 5.5km
Start Time: 9:00am
Elevation: 567M height gained
Adult Only 500aed
A great route for the more experienced trekker. The hike starts road side and winds immediately up a quaint narrow path and rocky trail to a goat farm above. Your then beckoned further up a ridge-line, with the occasional exposed scrambling sections requiring your hands and feet, eventually sighting an abandoned date palm plantation far below. Continuing father you are rewarded with a panoramic view of the south western plateau of Jebel Jais where you start making your way slowly down towards the abandoned palm plantation and back to civilisation. A challenging but rewarding trek.
LOCATION
The meeting point for our Athabat Ridgeline View Trek is Bear Grylls Explorers camp where there are toilet facilities. We are located half way up Jebel Jais, and can be found on Google Maps and Waze by searching ‘Bear
Grylls Explorers Camp’. A 4x4 is not needed to access our camp. When you arrive, just drive down the track slowly and park towards the back where you will see a number of shipping containers. The trek itself will start just a short 5min down the mountain. You will be required follow us to the trail head in your own vehicle, where there is off-road parking.
LEVEL
Advanced – Trek starts with 200 meters of immediate elevation gain requiring a good level of fitness. A solid head for heights, confident balance and stable footing is required as the route is mainly off trail, and has multiple sections that are exposed, and require the use of hands and feet. Where a trail exists, it is narrow and unstable under foot. This route is for fit and experienced trekkers only.
